Photos From The ‘the Adventures Of Pete And Pete’ Reunion
This past Friday, the creators and cast (sans Michelle Trachtenberg, alas) of “The Adventures of Pete and Pete,” the beloved Nickelodeon show that ran from 1993-1996, reunited at New York […]

Wait. Just. A. Minute.
One of the major reasons I live in NYC is to be able to events historic events like a live Pete & Pete cast reunion at Bowery Ballroom. How did I miss this?
The More You Know of the Day: And so, one of the greatest mysteries of our time is finally solved: Ice Cube’s “good day” took place on the 20th of January, 1992.
How did Murk Avenue’s Donovan Strain arrive at that particular date? Using details gleaned from the song’s lyrics, Strain was able to conclude the following:
The ONLY day where:
Yo MTV Raps was on air
It was a clear and smogless day
Beepers were commercially sold
Lakers beat the SuperSonics
and Ice Cube had no events to attend was…
JANUARY 20 1992So there you have it. Twenty years and one week ago today was what shall henceforth be known as the first annual National Good Day Day.

Pastiche for the win! They make the best Cannolis we’ve found in RI. They make lots of other great desserts too. They’re on Federal Hill.
When I was 16 years old, I drove my 1987 Chevy Cavalier to school, parked it on the street, left my purse in the backseat, locked the doors and went about my totally bitchin’ day, or whatever we said in the 90s. Like most 16 year-old girls, I carried my entire life in my purse, which I believe was a kicky little number one wore on her back like a tiny backpack - or a growth.
Obviously, my purse was stolen.
When my father arrived home that afternoon, I was already on the phone with the credit card companies canceling everything. The police were … not very encouraging. My father yelled at me, calling me irresponsible, disappointing, etc… and told me I was on my own. I cried, which was a pretty rare scene for me during the years of 1984 - 2000.
Later, my father’s girlfriend at the time yelled at him for being too hard on me. The next time she saw me, she slipped me a gift certificate to Pastiche on Federal Hill, which was just about the coolest thing I could imagine. It was glamorous and urban, and made me feel like an adult after my father had reduced me to feeling like a helpless child. Every time I hear tell of Pastiche, or, on the rare occasions I drive by, I think of this story. I walked around with that gift certificate for a long time, thinking of it as a silent f-u to my father; finally, someone was on my side.
That girlfriend is long gone. My father and I now have a totally comfortable adult relationship. And I walked around with that gift certificate for so long, that it expired before I could use it.

It’s JTT! He’s alive! As is the rest of the cast of Home Improvement!

Twenty years later: Still have a crush on JTT, still have terrible gaydar.
TV rarely dared to portray a guy and a girl as merely friends for some time, but it did it — and did it right — with Clarissa and Sam on the ’90s Nick classic Clarissa Explains It All. To be fair, they did go on one date, but it came more out of an innocent curiosity than anything romantic, and it ended terribly. Sam was your typical, go-with-the-flow teenage boy of the ’90s, with a most impressive haircut (check out the wave on that bad boy!), who checked Clarissa’s dramatic reactions to even the most minor daily disturbances. Plus, he always entered her room by climbing in on a ladder, which is pretty badass and, in retrospect, also kind of unsettling.

Nostalgia Overload of the Day: Remember that exciting bit of fakery about new episodes of classic NickToons that was making the rounds a few weeks back (see above)? Well, funnily enough, it may have played a decisive role in today’s announcement that TeenNick will soon begin rerunning many of your favorite Nick shows from years past.
Starting this fall, old episodes of Rugrats, Kenan & Kel, Pete & Pete, The Amanda Bynes Show, All That and Clarissa Explains It All will air during a special midnight-to-2 AM block called “The ’90s Are All That.” According to Inside TV, the network “came up with the idea after seeing the huge interest in early Nickelodeon programming on social media sites.”
“At the time, we were completely devoted to that audience ages 9, 10, and 11,” TeenNick GM Keith Dawkins told EW. ““It was ground-breaking and for the young viewers, a powerful and pivotal time in their lives. Those kids who are now 22, 23 and 24 want to bring that back.”

Why would you tempt us with this and then not include Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Ren and Stimpy, and Doug? All That? I liked it better when it was Roundhouse. And what the hell is an Amanda Bynes?
